As I’m typing this, in my mind I go back to the days when I couldn’t do my brows properly to save my life. Back then, I thought and believed that flawless makeup was for a chosen few. Fast forward: I am now a professional make-up artist – and I want to take you along in my journey. Today we are looking into some basic looks for our newbies in the make-up world.
First things first: A clean face is the most important thing to have before you can start any makeup look. You can use wet wipes, towels or your cleanser of choice. We will go step by step til we are done. No sister is being left behind!
Moisturizer
We all have different skin types. This is a very important thing to keep in mind when choosing the right moisturizer. Good moisturizer counteracts to the oils in your skin so that they don’t overproduce. And it helps to keep the skin hydrated.
Primer
Primer acts as a barrier between your skin and product you apply later on. Just like with the moisturizer, the type of primer you should use depends on your type of skin. We have different types of primers:
- Illuminating primer
- Hydrating primer
- Mattifying primer
Foundation
When you’re choosing your foundation, once again your skin type is to be considered: Getting the exact shade as your skin tone is a must. If you have oily skin, use a mattifying foundation. If you have dry skin, try illuminating foundation. ProTip: If you’re doing a patch test, try the foundation shade on your jawline!
Eyeshadow
In case you are rather reserved, you can use a eye shadow pallet that has warm colors, browns and nudes. If you are not scared to go bold, go for brighter colors! You can apply concealer or eye primer as a base if you want your eyeshadow to pop.
There are plenty of options when it comes to mascara: You can use volumizing, lengthening or even waterproof mascara. It all depends on the kind of look you are going for. Don’t forget to use the compact powder to set the foundation.
Blush
Blush is another must-have in your make up kit, if you really wanna take it to the max. It takes your look to a whole new level.
Setting Spray:
Setting spray is used to get rid of the ashy look after applying your powder. It also helps to give your look a flawless finish.
Highlighter:
Who doesn’t want a glow at the end of their look? This makes your makeup really pop. Apply the highlighter on your cheekbone and your T-zone area.
Lips:
Are you a lipgloss kind of a babe? Are you a hot red lipstick kind of woman? Maybe even both? Or you just like to go nude on the lips? In any case, choosing the right style for your lips is the final step for a perfect look.
And, finally, the biggest secret in the makeup world … practice, practice and more practice!
