Beauty Is Her Power: Bimpe Anakoya

The beauty industry in Africa is currently doing incredibly great. We have local brands that make beauty products fit for African women of various skin tones that are heavily celebrated in their respective countries. Being a makeup artist is now a profession that is given the respect it so deserves, beauty schools and master classes are a normal aspect of the local beauty culture.

In the makeup world, we have a variety of trends and signature styles of application. Nigeria is known to have some of the most incredibly talented makeup gurus that Africa has to offer. Some will even joke and tell you to book a makeup artist all the way from Nigeria just for your wedding day. They have a signature way of doing their makeup that is almost impossible to imitate.

Bimpe Onakoya is one of the biggest names in the African beauty industry and is known internationally as well. She is a multiple award-winning makeup artist, an international makeup artist, a global citizen educator and a creative director for Maybelline New York Nigeria.

Her titles speak for her and how talented she is when it comes to her craft.  She has had eleven years of experience working in the ever-growing industry. Print, television, fashion shows, advertisement campaigns, editorial shoots, bridal beauty, you name it she has done it.

As influential as she is, she has worked alongside some of the most equally influential photographers, models, designers and stylists in the continent. Her aim is to always bring out the best features when it comes to her client and this has made her a celebrity favorite.

Her work has taken her to international platforms like New York fashion week where she has had the opportunity of working with major designers like DKNY, Lacoste, J Mendel, Mara Hoffman, just to mention a few. She has gone even further to be appointed as head makeup artist at huge fashion events such as Arise fashion week back in 2011 and then becoming a team leader later on in 2012.

Her work stands out and she can easily be picked out of the pack. Her signature technique and knowledge of how to work well with color has to be what has kept her ahead of time and always top ten when it comes to African makeup artists. She is an icon in the African makeup industry and she is only getting started.
