Hamaji the Nomad

Hamaji The Nomad is a sustainable African Boheme designer collection based both in Nairobi, Kenya and Berlin, Germany.  The brand has created job opportunities for local artisans based in rural Kenya, as the entire collection is inspired by nomads. They have a collection of dresses, bags, jackets, kaftans, and kimonos that are all hand made in their studio at the foothills of Mount Kenya.

The embroidery on their pieces is done by talented artisans based in Ngara, Nairobi while they acquire their fabrics from Nigerian tradesmen who source their merchandise from North and West Africa at the nomadic desert festivals.

Their pieces are beautiful and easy on the eye.  They are tailored and embroidered to perfection with exceptional attention to detail. The designs have been made true to tradition in terms of the textile as well as the nomadic style of dressing.

The feel from each collection is comfort and chic. The Hamaji woman is free from the norm in fashion.  She has the ability to dress as she pleases and match her outfit to her mood, a mood that would most probably be peace and tranquility.

These are pieces curated for a tropical location, clothes that would be perfect for Spring and Summer. The fabrics are elegant yet not too bold, each item leaving room for stylish accessories. This is a brand we as Africans can be proud of and the fact that it supports and empowers small scale African artisans in terms of employment is an added bonus.

Their latest collection termed “African Botanics” is a Summer collection inspired by the ornate flora located all through Africa and its arid lands.  The most unique aspect of this collection would have to be the fabrics that were used – silk crepe, vintage velvet, and hand-woven camel sacks. The soft color palettes and free-flowing garments that comprise all their collections are the backbone of this incredibly chic brand.
