November 2022 has been a milestone in Nigeria’s entertainment industry’s continued upward mobility. For the first time in the nation’s cinematic history, a premiere of a Marvel film held in Lagos, Nigeria. Recall that this past week, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever made its European debut at Cineworld Leicester Square in London after beginning its global premiere in Los Angeles.
Black Panther Premiere: AFRIFF and FilmOne Plays Host To Wakanda Cast
The African International Film Festival (AFRIFF) and FilmOne Entertainment played host to director Ryan Coogler and returning Black Panther actors Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, and Winston Duke, as well as Tenoch Huerta and Michaela Coel. The movie’s producer, Nate Moore as well as other producers and soundtrack artists were present to mark the event. At the premiere held at Filmhouse Cinemas IMAX Lekki, the magnificent cast of Wakanda Forever majestically dazzled the rolled-out black carpet.
On Why Nigeria?
The event included a press conference held at the Lagos Continental Hotel. The film’s director Ryan Coogler, when asked why Nigeria was chosen for the African premiere, said “Lagos has a lot of history and cultural significance for filmmakers.” Moreso, he recently took a genealogy test, the results of which revealed that he is primarily of Yoruba ancestry and has ties to a part of Cameroon. The top echelon of the vivacious metropolis of Lagos attended the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premiere. Several well-known Nollywood celebrities, including Mofe Damijo, Ayo Makun, Kunle Afolayan, Wale Ojo, Ini Edo, Shaffy Bello, Omawunmi Dada, and musicians Darey Art Alade and MI Abaga, attended the premiere. A number of other trailblazers in their various industries, like business magnate Tony Elumelu, were there for the memorable occasion.
